Wayfinding & Signage

ESQUE designs signage, wayfinding, and environmental graphics for resorts, hotels, private clubs, destination real estate, and restaurants. The work covers monument and gate signs, directional programs, course and cart-path markers, interior plaques, donor walls, restaurant exteriors, and the long list of small plates that make a property feel finished. We design to brand, then specify and document for fabrication, and stay on through install.

Walk the site. Every wayfinding program starts on the ground. We walk the property with the owner, the architect, and the landscape architect. The sign types and locations come from the experience of arriving, moving through, and leaving.

Build a sign type schedule. We document every sign the property will need, from the monument at the gate to the restroom plate in the clubhouse. The schedule is the spine of the package.

Design to the brand. Typography, color, materials, and finish tie back to the brand identity. The signage should feel inevitable to anyone who already knows the mark.

Spec and document. We deliver construction documents a fabricator can bid and build from: dimensions, materials, finishes, mounting details, illumination specs, and installation locations.

Stay through install. We review shop drawings, approve samples, and visit site during install to protect the brand.

What is wayfinding design?

Wayfinding design is the system that helps people move through a place. At a resort, that means the gate sign that greets a first-time arrival, the directional signs from the entrance to the clubhouse, the room number system in the hotel, the course markers on the golf course, the hole and tee plates, and the interior plaques that name rooms, restaurants, and back-of-house areas. Wayfinding is the brand meeting the ground.

A typical signage and wayfinding package includes a site audit, a sign type schedule, artwork for each sign type (monument, directional, regulatory, course, interior, donor, back-of-house), material and finish specifications, a construction documents package for a sign fabricator, and an installation map. ESQUE designs to brand and works alongside fabricators, architects, landscape architects, and general contractors.

Does ESQUE fabricate signs?

ESQUE is a design studio, not a fabricator. We develop the full signage design and a construction documents package, then work with the right fabricator for the job, whether that is a local shop, a national signage partner, or a specialty fabricator for stone, metal, or illuminated work. We stay on through fabrication and install to protect the brand.

Environmental graphic design is the family of visual work that lives on a built environment: wall graphics, murals, interpretive signage, donor walls, wayfinding, room numbers, restaurant interiors, hotel corridor graphics, large-format typography, and immersive installations.
